Decluttering your mind from obligations

Obligations…just the word makes me feel…well, obligated.

Have you ever said yes to someone even though you wanted to say no?

Have you ever agreed to take on a project or position without praying about it first?

Have you ever looked at your calendar and wanted to throw it away and just start over?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you have experienced the clutter of obligation.

So, what can we do?

  • Prioritize:  only take on obligations that are consistent with your priorities
  • Say no: and say no without guilt!
  • Pray: Remember that if you say yes to something that you are not called to do, you are taking the opportunity for someone else (who may be called) to fulfill their calling.
  • Schedule: I am not saying that obligation is bad.  Just obligation that feels like a burden and fills you with dread.  The obligations that are necessary need to be scheduled and part of your routine to avoid becoming mind clutter.

Do you struggle with saying no?
